Absolutely! Professional, scientific mold testing can uncover hidden mold through advanced sampling and analysis techniques.
This is our specialty. In fact, most of our mold testing appointments in Montreal involve no visible signs of mold growth. Our clients often report health symptoms while at home or in the office, even when there’s no visual or olfactory evidence of mold.
Did you know mold spores are microscopic? You can’t see them with the naked eye. They float through the air and easily penetrate porous materials and small openings. At Axxonlab, we understand fungi at a cellular level and bring that expertise to every residential, commercial, or industrial mold assessment. You can trust us to give you reliable information on your indoor environment.
Mold is a ubiquitous organism. It’s found almost everywhere in our environment—indoors, outdoors, in all climates, and across every neighborhood in Montreal. Its spores are typically present in the air and can thrive on a variety of surfaces, especially when moisture is present.
Contrary to popular belief, the age of the property or neighborhood doesn’t matter. Whether it’s a charming old heritage building or a sleek new condo, mold can grow anywhere if the conditions are right. All it takes are spores, an organic food source, and a moisture content.
Having analyzed thousands of air and surface samples across Montreal, Axxonlab has seen it all. Our findings? Mold doesn’t discriminate. It can make itself at home just about anywhere under conducive conditions.
Mold and asbestos are distinct in composition, testing processes, and microscopic analysis. From a laboratory perspective, different analytical methods, sampling media, and air pump flow rates are required for each. Unfortunately, there is no “catch-all” testing service that identifies all contaminants in the air. Each indoor environmental contaminant requires its own sampling process and approach. At Axxonlab, we can perform both mold and asbestos testing for residential, commercial, and industrial projects throughout Montreal. Call us today to discuss your concerns and let us guide you on the best way to obtain the most accurate data possible
Think of it like this: if you are experiencing adverse health symptoms, would you prefer getting a diagnosis from Web-MD/Google or by a trained medical professional after undertaking various tests to conclusively determine your condition? If you chose the latter, we agree!
A mold assessment conducted by trained, experienced indoor environmental professionals can accurately identify the presence, type and concentrations of mold in your property, providing you with detailed insights to better determine a course of action. With Axxonlab, our mold testing services provide conclusions based on facts. These facts are verified through a robust analytical process, backed by over a decade of practical experience.
Axxonlab is a reputable analytical firm, with several team members recognized as expert court witnesses for indoor environmental cases. Every aspect of our mold testing service, including the report, is designed with this potential variable in mind. Our team is highly trained. Our equipment is impeccably maintained, and regularly calibrated. Since we are not a decontamination company, there are no perceived conflicts of interest with our assessments. We are well prepared, in advance, to present our findings before any court, any time.Â
While visible mold can sometimes be identified by its color and texture, distinguishing between mold and dust can be tricky without professional testing. Mold can come in various colors like black, gray, or white, and often looks powdery, similar to fine dust particles. Dust itself can even be a food source for mold, making it a double trouble scenario. In our lab, we frequently find mold in dust samples from indoor spaces.
A common misidentification culprit, aside from dust, is efflorescence—a chalky deposit left on masonry after moisture evaporates. It can look a lot like mold and even grow inches thick. Its root cause is similar to mold growth: moisture.
Professional mold testing by a trained environmental sampling technician is the most reliable way to confirm or deny the presence of mold, determine the conditions conducive to mold growth, and help formulate a protocol for removal and prevention.
The city of Montreal has clearly defined regulations pertaining to the responsibilities of both landlords and tenants. Montreal’s by-law concerning the sanitation and maintenance of dwelling units (03-096) has well-defined stipulations regarding maintenance and sanitation of units. For example, Chapter IV, #25 states: “No building or dwelling unit may constitute a public health or an occupant and public safety hazard because of the use that is made of it or the condition it is in. The following are prohibited and must be eliminated: (9) presence of vermin, rodents, insects or visible molds, and conditions favoring their proliferation.”
For over a decade, Axxonlab has been providing unbiased testing and analytical services for tenants and landlords. In our experience, every case is unique. The source of a mold problem within a dwelling could be the inadvertent result of a tenant’s habits, or it could be the result of building envelope issues outside of their control. Having an independent expert assess and report on what is truly occurring is the first step in determining who is responsible, and more importantly, how to restore the environment to a safe state.
